A breast lift reshapes the breasts for a more youthful appearance. A breast lift can be the best breast surgical procedure to improve sagging and loss of firmness. The breasts may sag for many reasons including:
- Nursing
- Pregnancy
- Aging
- Gravity
- Heredity
- Excessive weight loss or gain
- Decreased elasticity in the skin
A breast lift repositions the nipples into a natural, higher position. Breast implants along with a breast lift will create fuller and firmer breasts.
What Is The Recovery Like Following A Breast Lift?
After your breast lift, you will experience swelling for up to 3 weeks. Some numbness might occur in the treatment areas and will be reduced after a few weeks. You will have mild to moderate discomfort that will be controlled with pain medication and ice packs. Kansas City Breast Surgeon Dr. Chhatre will provide you with a support bra that should be worn for a few weeks after surgery. Most of the sutures are all dissolvable except for one at the t-junction of each breast which is usually removed after 3 weeks. After 7 days you may return to non-strenuous work and activity. You will need to take more time off of your work if you have a physically demanding position. It may take up to 3-4 months for the final result to be apparent.
What Can I Expect In My Breast Lift Consultation?
Dr. Chhatre’s nurse will discuss with you the breast lift procedure and your personal goals for the surgery. He will take the time to address all of your concerns because breast surgery is a very personal decision. His nurse shows you before and after breast lift photos and Dr. Chhatre will discuss the best breast size for you. This will also give you a better understanding of how the procedure will reshape your breasts.
Your medical history will be evaluated before any decision about surgery is made. Dr. Chhatre will measure your breasts, explain the surgery in full detail as well as the new placement of your nipples, the type of anesthesia to be used and answer any of your questions.
If surgery is scheduled then a 2nd consultation will be scheduled closer to the surgery date. At the time of the 2nd consultation, Dr. Chhatre will re-examine you and answer any additional questions that you may have. Dr. Chhatre’s nurse will then take pre-procedure photos and also go over all pre- and post-procedure instructions.
Am I A Candidate For A Breast Lift?
Good candidates for a breast lift have realistic goals and want to improve the sagging, the shape, and the firmness of their breasts. Women who are not good candidates are those who plan on having more children, have not lost all the weight they wish or are not completely sure if the procedure is right for them.
