What Is Blepharoplasty?
Dr. Matt Chhatre can give patients a younger, more alert appearance through blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, at his Kansas City MO area plastic surgery clinic.
Our eyelids can begin to droop and sag as we age, giving our eyes a tired, run-down appearance. Fortunately, cosmetic blepharoplasty can restore a youthful, alert look to your eyes and an energizing boost to your self-esteem. To learn more about how you could reap the benefits of eyelid surgery, contact our clinic serving the greater Kansas City area today.
How Is Blepharoplasty Performed?
Separate procedures address the upper and lower eyelids. To correct drooping upper eyelids, an incision is made within the natural crease of the upper eyelid, allowing the surgeon to tighten muscles and tissue, remove excess skin, and reposition fat deposits. In lower eyelid surgery, an incision is made just below the lower eyelash, through which excess skin is removed. An alternative method involves making a transconjunctival incision, or an incision in the lower eyelid, through which fat can be removed or redistributed.
In both types of eyelid surgery, incisions are closed with sutures, skin adhesives, or surgical tape. Once the incisions heal, the surgeon may administer a laser chemical peel to eliminate any dark coloration in the lower eyelids. You may experience swelling, bruising, or irritation during the healing process. The results will become apparent within several weeks, though incision lines may take up to a year to fully subside.
