How Does JUVÉDERM® Work?

JUVÉDERM® is a sterile gel consisting of synthetic hyaluronic acid, a compound that occurs naturally in the joints and skin. It helps deliver and maintain moisture and nutrients. Sun exposure, the natural aging process, and other factors can cause the amount of naturally occurring hyaluronic acid in your skin to decrease over time, resulting in wrinkles, lines, and a loss of volume in areas such as the lips. Injected beneath the skin, JUVÉDERM® can restore this youthful volume and elasticity.

What Does JUVÉDERM® Treatment Involve?

JUVÉDERM® is injected into the treatment area at a moderate or deep level of the dermis, depending on the patient’s goals. Because JUVÉDERM® is a smooth gel with a thin consistency, Rachel uses a thin needle and low pressure during injections, making it comfortable to receive. The procedure itself only takes about 15 minutes. For the first 24 hours following treatment, patients are advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to sun and heat, strenuous exercise, and alcohol consumption. Results are immediately apparent and often continue to improve over time.

JUVÉDERM® Candidates

JUVÉDERM® candidates are those who desire an improvement in the appearance of facial lines and creases around the mouth, nose, and frownlines. JUVÉDERM® can also be used to plump the lips and improve the appearance of scars, such as those caused by acne. Different formulations of JUVÉDERM® address different areas of the face.

For patients with severe scarring, or those who have thin, loose skin, JUVÉDERM® may not be as effective, and surgical solutions may be recommended instead. Women who are pregnant, nursing, or bruise easily may not be good candidates for JUVÉDERM®.

How Long Will The Effects Last?
