As we age our cell turnover process drastically slows down.  This causes a build up of dead skin cells on the surface. Resulting in dull, sallow, rough looking skin. Adding exfoliants to your routine will help increase your cell turnover rate and leave your skin looking bright and smooth.  Exfoliation improves the appearance of the skin by helping to unclog pores, improves absorption of skin care products, and brightens the skin. There are two different types of exfoliation; mechanical and chemical.  Read below to learn the difference and see which one may be best for you.

Mechanical Exfoliation

Mechanical exfoliation gently sloughs away skin cells from the surface through motion rather than chemicals.  This is a process that can be done in our office with Dermaplaning, Diamond Glow and Clinical Facials.

During the Dermaplaning treatment a surgical scalpel is lightly scraped over the surface of the skin at a 45 degree angle.  This allows your esthetician to remove the surface dead skin cells, as well as the vellus hair on the surface. Along with removing the surface dead skin cells, this also allows for better product absorption.

The Diamond Glow treatment uses a diamond cut tip that is lightly moved over the skin, this process removes the surface skin cells, while also infusing a serum appropriate for your skin type and extracting debris from the pores.  This treatment leaves your skin bright and soft.

Facials typically use a scrub that is lightly applied and rubbed over the surface of the face.  Eco-friendly microbeads lightly remove rough dead skin cells and allow for effective extractions and clear pores.

None of the above treatments yield any downtime and immediately leave your skin looking and feeling soft, bright and healthy.  It is recommended to have a clinical mechanical exfoliation treatment monthly to keep your skin looking young and vibrant.

Chemical Exfoliation

Chemical exfoliation is a process that can be done at home or in our medspa by our estheticians, Natalie or Heather.  Chemical exfoliation uses chemicals such as acids or enzymes to soften and remove dead skin cells. Your esthetician will be help you decide during your indepth complimentary consultation, which type of chemical exfoliation will be best for you!

Clinical chemical exfoliation techniques are procedures such as chemical peels or at home products containing ingredients such as glycolic or salicylic acid.  Depending on the level of exfoliation needed the downtime can vary from 0-5 days.  This process includes a peeling and sloughing of the surface dead skin cells.

The ViPeel Chemical Peel is our most popular in-office chemical exfoliation.  Using a proprietary blend of ingredients, it targets fine lines, sundamage, skin texture, acne and acne scarring.  The process in the office is pain free and takes less that 30 minutes.  Within about 2-3 days, the skin starts the shedding process.  The full shedding process, once started, can take approximately 3-5 days.  The final result is glowing skin with less acne, pigment and wrinkles.

We also carry several products that can be used at home to help remove the surface skin cells.  We have several products from our clinical skin care lines that stimulate cell turnover to leave your skin bright and luminous.

Dr. Chhatre is an amazing plastic surgeon in KC. He is very straightforward and extremely skilled. I considered my procedure for over a decade, and consulted with multiple area surgeons. I am so happy I chose to go with Dr. Chhatre. I had a very smooth surgery and recovery, and two years post-surgery, I’ve still had no complications and my results look amazing. If you are looking into abdominoplasty with muscle repair in the KC area, go to Summit Plastic Surgery and Medspa.

I can not say enough good things about Dr Chhatre, his nurses and staff. Over a span of about 20 years, Dr. Chhatre has done 3 surgeries for me and several sutures on my face from a serious car accident. He has ALWAYS been so pleasant and kind, understanding and listens to what you want and need. He has nurses and staff that have been with him for years which really says a lot. They are all so amazing. Cara in particular has been absolutely amazing this last go round. Dr. is so lucky to have them all and I’m very happy and thankful for them as well. Highly recommend this practice to everyone in need of any cosmetic or medical issues. ❤️
