Dr. Matt Chhatre can restore youthful definition to patients’ overall facial appearance through neck lift procedures at his clinic serving Kansas City and surrounding communities.

Your neck area is one of the first places on your body that begins to reveal the signs of aging. Hereditary fat deposits and gravity can work together to saddle you with a “double chin,” robbing you of youthful definition. Often, liposuction alone can restore the look you desire. But if you happen to have an excess of skin under your chin, a neck lift may be the answer. By tightening the skin under your chin, your surgeon can help you reclaim a taught, defined look that can make you look great, and feel great about how you look. To find out more about whether a neck lift is right for you, contact our clinic serving Kansas City, Overland Park, and Lee’s Summit today.

The Neck Lift Procedure

A neck lift can primarily consist of the removal of excess fat from beneath the chin by liposuction, but in patients over 40, surgical skin tightening is typically necessary. After anesthesia is administered, the skin tightening procedure begins with small incisions made behind each ear, and one incision under the chin. Excess skin is trimmed, and the remaining skin is stitched into place, closing the incisions.

In some cases, weak neck muscles are to blame for the loose skin under the chin. Like the procedure used to tighten the skin, a platysmaplasty involves small incisions being made behind the ears and under the chin. The surgeon can manipulate these muscles or remove them altogether to create the desired effect.

Depending upon which procedure or combination of procedures a patient requires, the entire process can take up to three hours to perform. Following surgery, it is not uncommon to experience a burning or numb sensation, but this is normal and will eventually subside. Recovery time varies, but you can usually expect to be able to return to work in two weeks or less.

Risks Of Neck Lift Surgery

All surgical procedures carry some degree of risk, and though neck lifts have been performed for decades with excellent results, there are still risks involved. Potential complications include unfavorable scarring, poor wound healing, persistent pain and infection. Those who meet candidacy requirements should carefully consider their personal risk factors before pursuing treatment.
